Hey Y'all,

Seems as though I am on some type of Jen rampage...let it be known this is definately a worthy read (any of her books are).

First, dont you just LOVE this cover!? Completely protrays the book.

I was completely shocked at how good Every Other Day was. I expected to be a good read when I picked it up, but when I read it, it knocked my socks off!

Here is what I was expecting:

Kali does her demon slayer kick-butt super hero bad girl –– you know, that epic main charcter with all the moves and abilities most people don't have....the kind that make you jealous–– ... every other day, hence the title. I thought she would walk into this girl at school and see the mark, throw in a chapter of "Oh no I'm human right now and can't possibly save her", than spend the whole book saving her because she is just so smart she figured out a way to do so, being human. I did not expect the whole other side of the story.......basically the end of the book.
And trust me, this sounds oh so compelling and super awesome but instead...... this is what I got:

Kali lives in a world (a very very future world) where they have supernatural creatures just crawling all over the place, and Kali has an instinct to kill them, and she is purely undefeatable....unless she is human...which happens every other day. The first chapter is just epic in showing off Kali's skill, what a straight up command that the book will be action packed. Kali's dad pretends that she isn't their most of the time...for a reason Kali just doesn't know. When Kali goes to school and sees this girl with the mark, she lures the specimen onto her own body, hoping that she can survive long enough to Change and the creature would die a painful death by her poisonous blood. An idea which would have worked pretty well (despite obvious health threats) except when the spiecimen, known as a chupacabra, enters her body it talks. It's not supposed to talk. Kali learns some very shocking things about herself. What she is. Who her mother is. Why her dad doesn't acknowledge her much. She'll be betrayed, taught, saved, dead (almost), threatened, accused, and shocked. But Kali finally makes some friends along the way...and looses some.

Kali's dad is extremely ignorant of Kali's life....he doesn't know what to do with a child...especially one that was a science expieriment...one he thought and through the whole book thinks failed. He thinks she's just a normal girl. He thinks combining her DNA with a vampire's didn't work. Kali is supposed to have a thing for weapons (she can tell where they are at all times...she can sense them) and when Kali's father comes home to Kali's mother handing her daughter a gun and saying "This is a gun. Can you say "gun" Kali?" he kind of draws the line. They weren't getting any response from Kali anyway...to their tests, she was human. To them their expieriment failed. Their expierement was over. So Kali's father felt inclined to end it, to pick up Kali and hightail it out of there. But the guy has no idea what to do with Kali, so she practically raised herself. She grew into their expieriment. She became that vampire they had created though, and hid it from her father. She thinks it ran in her family...she thinks it came from the mother she can't remeber. She finds all her answers though when the science leauge her mother is in decides to run a expieriment on students in Kali's school, secretly. They give the cheer leaders a blood test, one where they drop chupacubras into one unlucky students bloodstream. Of these, the unlucky is Bethany. Kali saves her by taking the chupacubra and finding an unspecting friend. And also a creature that links her to her future, her truth of her past, and also her doom. A creature that connects her to her mate.........to a manipulation that could kill her........and to her mother.

The writing of this novel is stunning. It is very distinct and seperate from other books Jen has written.

I absolutely love the ending of this book, the fast pace, knowledge gain-flooding, and the suspenful ending that it is. She exposes herself to her friends and looses her best one all in one short peirod of time. I love how her mother saves her. How she comes to her cell and pretends to drug her, faking the injection infront of the eyes of the enemy. Kali is bitter to her mother in the end, but who wouldn't be? She is justified in the fact that her mother created her as an expieriment.

I believe that this stand alone novel can absolutely have a sequel. It leaves the ending open for more adventure. The last paragraph of the book proves that.

Reid asks if Kali has plans after graduation:

Zev was a vampire. Reid was FBI. And according to something I'd once overheard the mother I hadn't seen in eighteen month saying, Chimera wasn't exactly one of a kind.
PS: When they ask you what they're going to ask you, say yes.
I brought my eyes to rest on Zev's. "What exactly do you guys have in mind?"

I really love Every Other Day. It's a tale of friendships, truths, lies, secrets, supernatural abilities, and love. It's a book I will, and am going to read again and again. If there is a sequel (which I mentioned in the spoiler alerts I think there should be) I would 210% read that again and again, too.
